X-MEN '97. Slated for a 2023 release, X-Men '97 is reported to pick-up where the original animated series left off. This is the first X-Men related series officially announced by Marvel Studios, albeit being an animated series. The proximity of this series and the original series to the Marvel Cinematic Universe is currently at question. The original series had many features from notable figures in the MCU, causing continuity issues if it happens to take place on our Sacred Timeline. What If...? introduced the existence of a multiverse of universes, depicted in animation, and its proximity to the MCU is still in question. Perhaps Marvel Studios can use this nebulous canonicity to establish the universe of the original X-Men animated series as another in our multiverse. We've yet to see any crossover from the animated Marvel Studios projects to our live action films, and this project establishing the X-Men in the MCU, but not in our main universe, may disappoint many. However, there is always the possibility of the '97 series ending with some multiverse event sending the X-Men into our world.

Probably far from reality, but there is also the chance that this series is just a homage to the original series in terms of style and tone. Perhaps this series takes place in 1997 and will work as a prequel to the live action X-Men appearances that would happen in present time. This could provide as an origin story, freeing any live action appearances from the need to establish what has already been done in all the other X-Men media. This is all likely wishful thinking, with the simplest answer being that this show is just a continuation of the original with no real tie-in to the MCU. A bit of a nostalgia trip for older fans while also exposing newer ones to the animated X-Men series. It just so happens that the original series is on Disney+.
